Tournament Procedures & Scoresheet
Crossfire Officiating Guidelines - THIS DOCUMENT IS REQUIRED READING
Starting Sat/Sun Mar 27-28 - Crossfire will be using the same scoresheet that we used for the Luau & NorthStar President's Day. The video here covers the usage of this sheet.
NOTE: at the bottom of the scoresheet is a space to put the Court #, Match Time, and winning/losing teams. ENSURE THESE BOXES ARE FILLED IN SO THAT THE SITE DIRECTOR CAN RECORD SCORES CORRECTLY.
Arrival Time: Ensure you are at your assigned location 30 minutes prior to your first match.
TOP PRIORITY: START ON TIME AND KEEP THINGS MOVING. YOU ARE PROFESSIONALS, WE EXPECT YOU WILL ARRIVE ON TIME!
$27 per match
If you do not work as scheduled (more or less matches!) please email/call Robyn immediately after the event so we can ensure payments are made correctly to all officials.
Forfeited matches that are the official's last match of their assigned day AND do not require the official to perform the forfeit procedure are not included in final match counts for payment.
Matches will be best of three sets. First two sets to 25 no cap. A third set will be played only if necessary to 15 points no cap
Matches are a maximum of 55 minutes, but play until a team is ahead by 2 points.
New matches cannot start late so there is time to clean & prepare for the new wave.
Teams will stay on one side of the court for the entire match.
Sample Wave Timing:
Wave 1: 8AM, 9AM, 10AM
Wave 2: 12PM, 1PM, 2PM
Wave 3: 4PM, 5PM, 6PM
Only R1s will be used. No R2s or LJs.
Coaches and athletes are use the “honor system” regarding rosters, substitutions, rule violations, and in/out calls.
One team will keep the flip scoreboard, the other team will keep the Baller TV electronic score pad. The R1 will make the final decision on any scoring discrepancies.
Teams will monitor their own rotations as best they can and use the honor system.
Keep all timers synced up for the 55 minute running time.
Coin Toss: One representative from each team and the R1 will conduct a coin toss in a socially distanced manner. The winner will choose serve or receive. Teams will NOT switch sides during the match.
Warm-up: An 8 minute warm-up, using a 4-4 format will be used for the 1st match of each wave. The first 4 minutes on the court for the serving team and then 4 minutes for the receiving team. NO warm-ups for any team after the first match, teams should switch courts, conduct the coin toss & start play immediately.
Rule Set & Modifications
USAV rules apply
Officials accepting assignments should be flexible and understanding of changes due to unforeseen circumstances caused by the pandemic.
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death.
By accepting assignment and participating in this event, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
Adhere to current CDC & MDH guidelines regarding face coverings. Officials must wear a properly fitted mask that covers their mouth and nose at all times and use a hand-held whistle. If a malfunction occurs with a hand-held whistle, a regular whistle may be used as long as it is completely covered underneath a mask to reduce the potential of droplets.
Enter the facility wearing a mask. Masks are required at all times for participating athletes, coaches, officials and tournament staff. Plastic face shields are not an adequate substitute for face masks. Masks worn by officials must completely cover their mouth & nose at ALL times, no exceptions.
Officials are not expected to monitor the physical distancing of others. Each person is responsible to provide space between themselves and others. Coaches should provide direction to their athletes regarding social distancing and other safety protocols. If there is an issue of concern with either social distancing or mask wearing compliance, bring it to the attention of the court monitors/site director.
Crossfire asks that any individual (player, coach, official, etc.) not enter their facility if they are feeling ill, or are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
Doors will open 35 minutes before the start of each wave time. Do not arrive prior to that time to allow for transitioning and cleaning for a new group.
Upon arrival, temperature checks will be conducted and hands are required to be washed/sanitized.
The drinking fountain is turned off, but the water dispenser may be available for refilling bottles.
Only participating athletes, coaches, officials and tournament staff are allowed inside the tournament facility.
