Northern Lights Power League Information

2020 Dates: January 4-5, 11-12, 25-26, February 29, March 1, 21-22, 28-29

Arrival Time: Ensure you are at your assigned location 30-40 minutes prior to your first match.

Match Format:

  • (Power League) For Pool Play matches, each match will consist of 3 sets, the first two sets will be played to 25 points, win by two points with no cap. The third set of a match will be to 15 points, win by two points with no cap, switch sides at 8 points. All teams play a mandatory third set, regardless of the outcome of the first two sets. See Specific Non-Deciding 3rd set rules online for how the third set will be handled if one team wins sets one and two.
  • (Play Days) For Bracket Play matches, each match will consist of best 2 out of 3 sets, the first two sets will be played to 25 points, win by two points with no cap. The third set of a match will be to 15 points, win by two points with no cap, switch side at 8 points. There is NO mandatory third set for Bracket Play matches.

Payment:

  • $27 per match and is paid directly by NL - not Metro
  • At your first Northern Lights assignment for the year, you will need to fill out a contract for Northern Lights. Your paychecks will be issued directly by them and NOT Metro. You will only need to complete one contract per year, regardless of the number of NL events you officiate. Contracts will be given to you by the site director.

Coin Toss: Conduct the coin toss by assigning one team as "heads" and the other team as "tails." Flip the coin and give the corresponding team the choice of "serve, side or receive." Give the other team the remaining choice.

Warm-up: The 2-4-4 format will be used for ALL matches. The first two minutes will be for ball handling, followed by 4 minutes on the court for the serving team and then 4 minutes for the receiving team.

Facility & Parking Information

When entering, please be sure to identify yourself as an official to those taking admission. There is a room marked and available for officials in the playing facility area. Please keep it tidy during the day and clean-up at the end of play. No outside food or beverage (even coffee) is allowed at this site.

Officials' assignments are sent via email. Please confirm with a reply after reviewing your schedule.
