Remembering Anna Anderson, Mother of Metro Volleyball

Anna Anderson, founder of Metro Volleyball, passed away on July 6, 2021 at the age of 85.  Anna passed the torch to founding partners, Debbie Smith and Shauna Rhinesmith in 1991, after assigning volleyball officials in the twin cities metro area from the first year it was an MSHSL-sanctioned sport in the mid-1970's.  She is a Distinguished Member of the Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame in recognition of her years of service as a trailblazer and mentor for scores of volleyball officials.  Anna was a remarkable woman  who scheduled officials on paper and communicated section assignments over the phone the night before the match.  She has left an indelible mark for those of us that continue the work that she started in service to the sport of volleyball.
