Parks & Rec
General Information
Officials should secure their own liability coverage to work events/leagues run by our partner cities and clubs.
Officials will be paid the regular match fee for any forfeited matches not known prior to arrival and/or "gap" forfeits that occur in between matches.
Typical assignments range from 2 to 4 matches per night.
Match fees are listed on their respective pages under the Parks & Rec tab and linked above.
A signed Independent Contractor Agreement and W-9 form are required for payment. A signed ICA is required each year and is in effect from August 1 through July 31. See our Independent Contractor page for more info.
If you are paid over $600 in a calendar year by Metro Volleyball Officials Association you will receive a 1099-NEC for your tax filing.
Scoreboard - On the Go App
There may be times when flip scores aren't available or able to be displayed easily from the stand, especially for outdoor sand leagues.
We've found that the free version of the Scoreboard - On the Go app on your phone is a great alternative and allows you to easily keep score during your matches. A comparable free version Android app link to Scoreboard-Keep Score is also provided here for your consideration.
Self-Assign
After we've completed our initial round of assignments for returning officials that have a regular league as well as new officials that have indicated they'd like a regular league and we have a league that matches up with your location/availability, we will open up remaining assignments to be claimed through Arbiter under the SCHEDULE>Self Assign tab. We will still work to assign matches on the backend, but feel that communicating matches that are open to those that would like to claim them will help make the process more efficient throughout the season.
To claim an open league night, log into Arbiter > go to the SCHEDULE tab > select the Self Assign sub tab > review the open dates > click the [Go] button to claim the slot. Claimed slots then appear under SCHEDULE > Calendar along with your other assignments.
NOTE: Your calendar must be free of any BLOCKS on that date in order to see open dates on the Self Assign sub tab.
